I had received a couple of PM's from SB members comp.air.junkie and NashVegas about meeting them for a dive at the Destin Jetties. I had nothing else going so we agreed to meet at 11:00.

Just before arrival I got a call that the parking was full and the only spots available were a 1/2 mile down near the entrance to the other public access point....Yikes!

I got on site and was quickly suited up and was thinking that the walk would suck when my dive buddies wife who wouldn't be diving offered to drive us down and drop us off. Hell Yah!! Chop a 1/2 mile off that walk! We headed quickly for the water and were waist deep briefing the dive before we knew it.

We splashed at 11:30 and were quickly down to the box where we tied in our dive flag and made our way to the anchor (Which is buried again) before turning and slowly coming back taking pictures as we went. The life was not all that great and I thought for sure we'd see a shark as there were at least 6 fresh AJ carcasses laying in the reef which the fish and crabs were having a field day with.

All in all a nice dive albeit no sharks, rays or other big fish, but fun nonetheless. We ended up with a dive time of 53 minutes and max depth of 53 feet with min temp at 86*!
The only bad news from the dive was that nashvegas (?) had a home made camera housing which did not last very long, I'd guess that it was leaking right after we got to 20-30 feet and tied in the dive flag as I took this picture and today noticed this. But after we went to depth and returned shallow he said the back popped from the pressure and completely flooded it. Watch out JHAYES75! :shocked2:

Notice it looks like water is already in the case:

Thanks for the report.

The end of the parking lot, at the turnaround, is only 1/4 mile from the trailhead. If you got the free ride on exit, you were saved 1/2 mile. Still sucks walking 1/4 mile, especially when you have another 1/4 mile to the jetties from the trailhead.

Great report xray it was a fun outting. That was a good grab of comp.air.junkie's casing before we hit depth. Didnt notice then myself that it had already begun taking on water.

Probably going to hit the jetties again today if anyone is interested.

Great report. Those toad fish are out in numbers. I had to have seen at least 20+ the two days I dove.

The camera dried out and started working again. Kidding. Oh well it was worth a try since my parents gave me the old thing. I kept checking it and didn't see anything. I guess I was tipping it back and the water was running in the back because it looked dry. Really enjoyed diving with MRXRAY and nashvegas at the jetties. Now that I have been I will do it more and save from having to charter a boat. Thanks.

Felt like a 1/2 mile. Thanks for killing my hopes that the burn in my legs from two days ago was because of the extra 1/2 mile walk instead of a 1/4 mile! :mooner:

I hate to see anyone lose any gear, but it was a nice attempt at money savings! ;) It was a real pleasure diving with you both. Let's hook up and dive this week before you guys head back. Interested in a night dive at Navarre Beach Pier?

Dang you barry. Just rinsed the gear off and was planning on family time. Will PM you if I can.
