My lazy butt managed to get there around 11am....considering the high today was around 40 degrees, there was no way I wanted to dive early in the morning! (there is such a thing as too cold, even with a drysuit).
The water is absolutely gorgeous...visibility is 40-50 feet out in the outlying areas of the quarry, and closer to 30-40 feet around the schoolbus. Aside from a little area where someone had silted out the new sailboat, it was just beautiful.
I scootered around the quarry clockwise (I get to babysit bigken's UV18/26 for awhile), and had a marvelous dive. It took about 30-35 minutes to circle the quarry on setting "5". Got to see two freshwater jellyfish; I didn't expect to see them since the water temp has gotten colder, but there they were. I didn't see the big koi that lives in the corner of the quarry, I hope he's still kickin'. Max depth for the dive was 122 feet, with an average depth of 65 feet, and a run time of 45 min. My Nitek Duo is showing a temp of 55 degrees, and I didn't feel a thermocline all the way down to max depth. Only had two minutes of deco on the VR3 (random weird two minute stop at 67 feet).
If you can stand the cold air temperatures, it's a fantastic time to dive ABWA. It's just a completely different experience compared to the busy summer season.
