MentalMarine:
Hey I received an email about the Dive! Put-In-Bay Harbor Clean-Up September 17th. I was wondering if anyone else was planning on going up for this?
www.diveputinbay.com

Man I just got back from there today. Man cleaning that up could be a cool thing. Can we keep the stuff we find that the tourist have dropped off the boat? except ahem of course recycled beer if you know what I mean.

There is some info on the time line about that.

7:30 – 8:30 am All volunteers needing transportation to the island will ride the Miller Ferry, located at 178 Water Street at the tip of the Catawba Island Peninsula, on the mainland. Most of you are from the surrounding area and know where you're going. Check the Driving Directions on the Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce website for directions. Ferries are running hourly on the half hour from the mainland in the morning. You need to make the 8:30 a.m. ferry departing the mainland. Give your name at the ticket booth at the Miller Ferry. They will check your name off the list and give you a free ticket for your passage to the island. We feel this is a better way to handle passage as opposed to sending tickets that could get lost in the mail or might not arrive on time
7:45 – 8:45 a.m. The Put-in-Bay Tour Train will be waiting on the lower level* of the Lime Kiln Dock on the island when the ferry arrives. Board one of the trams and it will take you downtown directly to the clean-up site. If you miss the 8:30 ferry and arrive on the 9:30 (you'll get on the island about 9:45 a.m.) take the Downtown Bus, located at the top of the hill. Tell the driver you are with the Dive! Put-in-Bay Harbor Clean-up.
9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Once you arrive at the clean-up site downtown, go to the white gazebo located near Bayview Avenue and the curved Commodore's Memorial. This where you will check-in and receive your assignment for the clean-up. You will also be required to sign release forms at this time. While registration continues water, coffee and snacks will become available
10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Everyone will gather at the white gazebo for a special welcome from our Dive! Put-in-Bay Event Committee and Pre-Dive / Safety Meeting for all volunteers involved with the dive. Please be patient and quiet during the Safety Meeting. It is very important that everyone is able to hear the instructions.
10:30 – 12:00 p.m. Everyone breaks to their posts and completes the cleanup. Please remember that all land volunteers 12 yrs of age and under are required to wear life jackets (to be provided by the individual). During the dive an officer from the Put-in-Bay Police Department will be on hand to receive anything of value found in the harbor. Be sure to give your name and contact information to the officer. Divers: remember to request your land support to turn in any “treasures” you wish to keep or submit for prizes.
11:30 – 12:30 p.m. Lunch! Take your time eating lunch, picking up your T-Shirts, getting your participant prize, and (divers) taking a complementary shower. Now is also the time our special panel of judges will evaluate and choose the winners for each category of “treasure”. Thank you to all the Island and mainland businesses who have donated prizes for the event. At this time you will also be given a Volunteer Survey form. We want to make the clean-up as efficient and fun as possible for you. We will also have an electronic version of this form online at the Dive! Put-in-Bay website that you can email us after you return home.
12:30 – 1:00 p.m. Presentation of prizes for our “treasure” winners. A final Thank you to all our volunteers and sponsors. This clean-up requires coordinating the efforts of the Village of Put-in-Bay and the DeRivera Park Trust. The village owns A and C Docks and DeRivera owns B Dock. This clean-up is important to them and to the general island community as a conservation project.
