yea, I think ya'll should just stay on this side and go on those 5 dolla boat charters that Fishboy is always talking about.
Yup...
We had a club dive this morning at Ala Wai, but I doubt it went with the weather.

I had heard about not leaving valuables in your car, but I didn't think it was going to be as big of a deal as it was. The trunk on our rental wouldnt latch properly due to it being popped so many times. We always left one ID (military or DL) and all but one card (bank/credit) at the hotel, just in case. Whatever ID and one card we each had went with us diving. Two of the beaches we went to had people sitting in vehicles just watching tourists get things in and out of trunks. It really WAS as bad as I had heard. We also learned that if you take the remote to a Ford Focus into the ocean it will still work, haha.

Is it just Electric Beach that has the real problem with theft? Or all of the ones in that area? What about Makaha Caverns Park and Pray for Sex beach? Is one place "safer" than the others? We probably won't have a shore watch for the daytime dives, but we do plan to drag my co-worker and his wife out with us for the night dive.

If I hear you guys right, as long as one doesn't leave anything in the car, then the car won't get broken into. Is that right? Or do they steal cars often there as well?

Nope you can get knocked at any beach or parking lot or whereever.

Hey thanks, I was curious what you were doing to read the shore, ocean, currents etc.... Sorry if my question sounded like it was questioning your opinion.

Um, where were you planning on doing these night dives? If you're planning on doing them at any of the sites on the west side, I would be careful - and not just from a petty theft perspective. Electric Beach has gotten worse with the drug deals and ice heads hanging around - and this is in the daytime. Personally, unless I was with a group of people - and the majority of whom looked like they could take care of a situation - I wouldn't go there at night.

Cars are stolen here too. Sometimes just for a joyride, but often stripped for parts. Sometimes you can have nothing in your car and it will still get broken into. Maybe they assume you've got everything locked in the trunk, maybe they're "just checking". If you see people just sitting around the parking lot or sitting in their cars, I would think twice about leaving your car unattended.
