I agree, just start a new log with the most recent stuff you can remember and don't lose sleep over it. I start a new book when I run out of space so my current log will never start at dive #1 and I don't carry the old ones around.

I've never had anyone ask to see a log. As a matter of fact, I recently did Rescue and they didn't ask to see a card or log. Most places will judge for themselves if you can dive. Anyone can make up a log.

I did my PADI AOW the year after I got my OW, and I only had like 10 dives in. I probably should have waited a bit, but I really wanted to experience some of the other things it offered. Anyway, 4 years ago, I stopped logging my dives because I got lazy and no one cared to see it. Then i decided to take a trip and dive and it had been 3 years so I felt a little "guilty" about my skills. I took the "scuba tune up" and my instructor asked to see the dive log. I had enough dives in there, but it didn't reflect my most recent experiences, which btw included the Great Barrier Reef and the Red Sea, 2 places worthy of the bragging rights. I spent the night that evening trying to recollect what happened on my dive so I can fill out my log book. I had to quiz my wife and call an old friend that was with me there. It wasn't easy, but I think I got most of the critical parts. What's sad is I didn't remember as much as i had hoped, and for the great experience it was, I felt I had lost something. Keeping a dive log is truly like a diary, especially in your earlier years. Maybe when I hit 1000+ dives, i won't care as much.

Moral of the story, start filling out a new log book, if for nothing else, then do it for yourself. Maybe it will be a good trip down memory lane for you.
