I am looking for something to replace my hand written log...some sort of software that can log my dives on a PC and yet be able to print out a copy to put in my log book. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I was in the same situation about 6 months ago and explored all the options. I have been using Diving Log 4.0 and would HIGHLY recommend. I don't think you will find anything better for the price. Downlaod an evaluation copy and take it for a test drive.

Alot of computers that have built in logs (like Suunto Vypers/Cobras/D6's/D9's/etc.), have a computer cable and software for downloading your logs from your dive computer onto your PC, and viewing graphs and a bunch of other neat things about all your dives. Alot of people probably use this as a dive log as opposed to a written one. Still trying to figure out how to print out the dives though to stick into my logbook (havn't tried very hard though, I'm sure there's a way).

Most other major dive computer manufactures offer similar products.

Also, check out http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=scuba+dive for free open source software pertaining to scuba diving. Just browsing that page I'm seeing a few dive log programs you could check out.

I am currently coding one using Viusal Basic program language... it wont look to pretty but it will get the job done. It wont be finished for maybe another month or so but when its done and you would like to test it out, i'd give it to anyone who wants it.

IDL has a free one you can down load and check out

http://www.immersions.com/idl/
Do you use it? How is it? I'm going to play around with the trial tonite. At first glance, it appears that it stores all your data on their server or am I missing something?

I'm looking for something that will work stand-alone on my laptop and possibly interface with my Uwatec computer if you know of anything. I have a home-made interface so I can't use the Uwatec s/w.

appreciate any info,

For the OP - I use Divemaster from Reefnet. It's fine for entering all your standard divelog info and it can print either a summary of your dives or each specific dive. But in a standard 8.5 x 11 format so not sure how that would fit into most logbooks. http://reefnet.ca/products/divemaster/

it keeps records on your comp not sure about the interface though down load it and give it a try won't cost anything

Thanks, but it appears their ftp site is down - or else really slow...I'll try it later.

I downloaded IDL and it's ok. Not a true log per se (IMO anyways). I found it a little confusing. But it was late last night when I tried it out.

I have used Divemaster from Reefnet. It's ok, but like you mention, the print capabilities are limited. I downloaded a program called FinePrint http://www.fineprint.com/
It gets the job done. I need to try it with DM.

GLENFWB - do you have the URL for the Diving Log 4.0? I would like to give that a try.

Thanks for all the input.
