Looks like a beauty. Did you have to reinforce the transom where the bracket is attached? Do you climb aboard while wearing your gear or do you take it off in the water?

Makes the wimpy little SS folding ladder I just put on the Whaler look... well... wimpy. :D

Very Nice! One of the other fella's in this current dive class owns his own car garage and can probably provide the welding for us. I'll email this thread to the guys and see if they want to move forward with this. It appears MUCH easier than taking off the gear in the water and passing it up to the folks on board, as I've read on various other sites. Thanks Much!

I meant to include, MUCH EASIER and SAFER.

Uncle Pug - Is the crane on your boat for gear or salvage rescue or ??? It looks like you have quite the setup!

I purchased some 3/16" stock today. I will keep track of labor cost and take pictures of the process. I think the 3/16" size aluminum will allow the ladder will float with four steps. It should have plenty of strength for a full size diver with twin tanks. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

Belongs to my son-n-law/divebuddy now. The *crane* is a hydraulic hoist for pulling crab pots, shrimp pots and bags of geoduck. Shane uses the boat for commercial harvest diving. The tank rack in the photo is off right now and sitting in front of my shop and in its place is a surface supplied compressor and water jet pump.

But before we had the swim grid and ladder we used to take our doubles rigs off in the water an hoist them aboard with the pot puller.

No doubt about it... a heavy duty ladder like the one we have on Uncle Pug and the one 2Dive4fun built sure makes things easier. Just climb out with all your gear on.

Our lds had a ladder similar in design to both of yours. One difference was an A-frame brace about half way down the ladder. A pad on the end of the brace rested on the bottom of the boat adding a bit of stability as you climbed aboard. The most interesting use of the brace, however, was that once the boat was underway, the pad provided enough kick to flip the ladder out of the water past top dead center. Ergo a self stowing ladder.

I said had because it turns out that this ladder works great going forward but didn’t fair so well when backed into the dock…

For some reason I cannot se the attachments - maybe due to the age of the thread.

I am going to be making a ladder for my 33' Bert over the winter and I am looking for ideas.

Removeable mounting options, ladder design etc.

Can you repost the pics or send them to smanni1@comcast.net

THANKS
