Hey everybody.

I'm getting ready to head down to Playa del Carmen & Cozumel later this summer. Will by flying in/out of Cancun and enjoying the pleasure of dealing with American TSA and Mexican customs authority.

What can anyone tell me about transporting dive knives into/out of Mexico.

I always like to have a knife with me but really don't want to be an honored guest of the federales.

Thanks.
Robert

First... Welcome to SB!

Technically, they're not allowed in the marine park. I do however still take mine as I find it useful in the room as a bottle opener or for prying things. Never had a problem with customs... just check it with the rest of your luggage.

just bury it in your checkin stuff and you should be ok. If you have it in your carry on you are virtually guranteed to get it taken by those TSA pinheads.

Pinheads? There may be items that are arbitrarily questioned by airport security, but anyone who would try to smuggle a knife onto a plane is himself, IMO, a pinhead. The rule on knives is very clear.

Keep the knife at home.
You won't need it in Cozumel, anyway.
If you insist on bringing it, pack it in your check-in luggage; otherwise, it will be confiscated.

He's right; you won't need it in Cozumel, so leave it at home -- especially if it's an expensive or valuable knife. Even in your check-in luggage, they will find it. They confiscated my disposable razor the last time I was there.

ScubaTexan,
Thank you. That's what I needed to know. If they confiscate a disposable razor, they'll probably confiscate a dive knife.

Thanks.
Robert

No charge. Hope you have a fantastic time there. :)
