This is mine, solo or with a buddy, doesn't change. Gauges go on my wrist, 7' long hose, neckless reg is hidden on the other side, valve/reg is always DIN. If I'm not diving with my wetsuit that has thigh pockets I attach a harness pocket. Depending on season, weighted STA or just an old Diverite plastic one. Lobsters are optional.
and other stupid stuff) I manage just fine. The secret to getting in and out of a BP/wing is to use a stiffer webbing and to sit down into it and to stand up out of it with your arms straight down in both cases. If I try to put it on like a jacket or a suit coat, yes, that becomes difficult for me. I leave my shoulder straps quite loose, the waist strap gets pulled snug and the crotch strap limits movement. Leaving the shoulder straps such that I can fit a fist under each allows me to easily pop the straps over my shoulder for doff and don. To some degree, these things are both a skill and an adjustment issue.
