Doing a 60 foot drift dive on Sunday for youngest daughters cert. Bringing along 2 other kids and hopefully girlfriend. Anyone got a recent bottom (60 foot) temp in west palm? Counting lead and I need 88lbs if everyone is in thickest wet suit..... I would love to go lava core vs. 5mm if I can and save buying extra lead.

not sure about west palm - but i was fine in a 3mm at 100' on sat in pompano. depends on how cold everyone gets. check with the boat if can rent/borrow lead from them

At 80 degrees I am good in shorts and a tshirt. I have lava core and a 5mm.

The boat we are on provides weights. I got my final number and I need 86 lbs and have 83 so I am close. It helps I have salvaged 11 lbs while diving. Three times I have found hard lead weights sitting on the bottom and just stuff them in the bcd and keep on with the dive. I might try the lavacore on first dive and go from there. Bring my 5mm and use it on 2nd dive if I have to. Wish I was comfortable in the wet suit but it brings about the claustrophobic feeling so I dread it... Maybe just do it and learn to like it.

who are you diving with Jon. I'll be out there sunday as well. this time of year I go with my 5mm...

Little deeper. The boat the instructor we use uses them. Been good so far. If 77 I might try my lavacore.

their prices seem reasonable for the trips -- rental prices for complete sets is very high.. i wonder how many tanks are included @ $75 ???

i would do the lavacore -- hood? up to you.. i would wear at least reef gloves but that's me

86 lbs of lead? To dive? I hope that's a typo.
edited. I see its for four people. That still seems like an awful lot of lead for four people with 5 mm or even lavacores. 20 lbs apiece is quite a lot of lead for 5 mm wetsuits, and lavacores are neutral.

It is five. 3 kids, me, and girlfriend though GF is sick so probably just be kids and I. 2 of my kids are pretty big. All less than year certified so hopefully lead goes down. I use steel tanks so no wet suit I am good at 4-6 lbs guessing 12 with a 5mm. I am 6-3 200.

All my dives have been two tank dives and I have my own so 60 or 65 plus tip for a 2 tank per person. When you are paying for 4 divers gets expensive fast. I always wear gloves. No hood but plan to do lavacore first and eval for 2nd dive. They usually do 45-50 mins surface interval for divers on air.

Pure Vida went out with a boat from the same marina today and pics had a guy in shorts a tshirt and other in a shortie setup. Like the looks of that...
