1. We have only 6 pack boats and it goes out at 10:30 a.m. for a 3 tank Dive and after the first Dive you will find food waiting on you when you come out of the water and more to drink then just water also .
2. You have my interest. Does the $125 include tanks?? If so, what's the price for those with their own tanks. Also, what's the price to charter the entire boat for a three tank dive with no tanks included. Also, what kind of boat are you running?

Interesting thread...esp. since it was started 4 years ago, and yet remains reflective of my experience earlier this month...

I was limited to Key West itself...I looked in on four local dive operations to do a couple of dive days during the week I was there. It seemed to me there was very little passion for diving or customer service at these shops.

There was a distinctly ho-hum attitude on the part of the operators, and very little variety of offerings. Basically I could dive the Vandenburg wreck in the mornings, or do an easy reef dive in the afternoon. Now the Vandenburg is a deep, verging on technical depth, dive that is far more advanced than I can currently handle, near-neophyte that I am. Despite this, I got the distinct impression that they would have been happy to take me out to this site and seemed nonplussed by my caution.

I am under the impression that Key West has a variety of wrecks available at less challenging depths, but apparently these require special arrangements with the operators...except for the Joe's Tug site, which was unavailable on the one day it was offered, because nobody but me had signed up for it.

I did go out for a two-tank dive with one operator...my first experience with a 'no frills' [to put it politely] operator. In a way it was good...I haven't had much experience setting up my own gear [my other dive outings have been 'full service' experiences, and I had spent the previous day in my resort's pool practicing buoyancy and gear setup and computer management], but guidance was minimal...clearly singleton divers were not the norm for them. I saw nurse sharks, and a lionfish, all at <30ft...I was hoping for something a little more challenging, but I was limited by my short-ish stay in Key West. Perhaps I could have found better with more lead time.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that I won't be returning to Key West to dive. Perhaps the Upper Keys are more enthusiastic about what they do...I hope so. It was certainly a night-and-day contrast to Hawaii, where the dive ops were far more enthusiastic and professional and seemed genuinely delighted to take you out and show you the sights....of which a large variety was available.

I know this is an older thread, but I have to mention Key Dives. I dove with them over Thanksgiving one year ago and I'm getting ready to head down again. These guys are awesome and I can tell you that the dives were perfect (which the operation doesn't always have control over) the the staff and crew were amazing. Extremely professional and overly nice. We dove with them for 2 days and really felt like we bonded with the whole group. Great job Key Dive in Islamorada.
