so i here that there is this dive at the epcot in florida....Just wondering if anyone out there knows much about this and is it cool...Remember i am a new diver...The only reason im asking is that we are going out there to do some real diving in the ocean but i thought way we were there we could check this out too.

+1 Pete.

I've yet to make the dive down there, but have been invited down by their staff. I may go between semesters in December or January. (pet project)

The dive is a bit pricy when you consider that the ocean is so close that you can throw rocks at it. On the other hand, for those who want a salt-water dive w/o the issues of being in the open ocean, it's not so bad...possibly practical. The key there is that when you make the dive, you become part of the aquarium show for patrons outside the aquarium.

They provide everything. The only personal equipment allowed is a personal mask. This helps them eliminate the possiblity of outside contaminants entering the aquarium. 2.5mm shorty wetsuit, BCD, tank, air, fins, spg w/o depth gauge - air only, and mask. It's supposed to be roughly a 3 hour process to get into the aquarium as they take patrons on a "behind the scenes" tour of the facility prior to the dive. The dive is 40-60 minutes (generally 40 min).

Also, for those owning the HUD masks, last I checked they were not allowed due to the batteries that are used in the mask, but subject to change.

I did the epcot dive last year and I have to say it was prety cool. Yes, kind of pricey, but I thought well worth it. The total dive was 40-45 minutes. Not only do you get to dive, but you get to see all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes. They were very nice there and I have to say that when we go back to disney, I will definitely do it again. Kind of silly, but you get to watch the people in the restaurant in the living oceans and they incourage you to put on a show for the diners. The only thing I didn't like is they must have a pre-set weight in the BC so you really have to work with your buoyancy quite a bit.

By the way if you are a padi member or a AAA member, you get a discount on the dive.

Also, if you have kids and you find yourself at Disney with them, they will get a kick out of seeing you behind the glass.
