Thanks, but I'll pass on keeping it attached. My buddies don't shoot to the surface, and I don't want a failure at depth for the chance that I might have to use it immediately-someday. It only takes disconnecting my inflator hose to attach this thing. I can wait.

Failure point, that's a little far fetched.

Absolutely.

1000 dives later, never cared for, never serviced.

I vote with those who think you should keep it attached in place ready for use.
One of the few times I needed mine we had just surfaced into a fast current sweeping us around an island and out of sight of the boat. There was just time for one quick blast before we went out of sight and they saw us immediately.
If I had to fumble around for 20 secs I might as well not have had it.

I would hate to attach anything to my inflator hose, other than the inflator. But I can see a use while drift diving. Can these be attached on the surface after inflating your wing/bc?
Surface in a current & waves, moving away from the boat, reach in your pocket. "I'll attach my Dive Alert. Oops - I had a Dive Alert."

I'd want it well attached to my kit, and see no reason to not just leave it on the inflator hose. In the unlikely case of a problem, I can remove it, or orally inflate, easier than I can put it on in a bad situation. Caca happens, and I may want to use it in a hurry.

It's on my reg when I pack it in my roll on bag. Gives the TSA agents one more thing to pretend to inspect. :crafty:

Thanks guys for your comments... I agree I will not use it much except in a case of dire emergency. (it could be annoying otherwise)

The HammerHead Mini is for use above and below the surface. I'll give it a try next time I'm diving.

Cheers

I have the hammerhead mini and I believe it is for below only. It is so loud, I won't carry it anymore. It is just too annoying to other divers intent on a peaceful dive. The topside dive alert, is really a must, however. Many liveaboards in PNG require you to have one.
