I'm putting together my rig. I've opted for a hog harness BP/W and now I'm on weights.

What are my options? It seems to me that with a BP/W the options are weight belt or harness, although, since I have a waist, should I just opt for a belt? Two harnesses doesn't make much sense to me.

Thanks,
Jim

I favor a weight belt if I need any additional weight at all. I'll also attach some weights to cam straps to maintain trim.

Depending upon the amount of weight, you can use add weight to the bp, tank straps, and still use a weight belt.

I used to dive with BP/wing and found that the happiest with this setup were using a weight belt. I never did find a totally satisfactory way to put weights on the harness itself.

Thanks all - I appreciate the input.

If you go for an Apeks back-plate you have the option of integrated sure-lok weights, same as on AquaLung/Seaquest BCDs. They work well, carry up to 5kg of lead each, don't get in the way and can be swapped on and off in under 5 minutes.

Halcyon and at least one other manufacturer do integrated weight pocket systems as well.

The small XS Scuba weight pockets will fit on the belt and not take up a lot of space. You could easily put 5# on each side if you want that much ditchable. Of course, you can always add non-ditchable weight with a heavier SS plate, weighted STA, or weight pockets on the cam straps, or all three.

Look at the DUI weight harness. It's much more comfortable than a belt, but keeps all your weight off the harness, and still ditchable. I dive with a lot of guys who use these with BP/ and harness and love it.

Do you really need ditch-able weight??? I would just use a thicker plate or maybe add some xs pockets to the tank straps. I have a harness but rigged it so weight can't be ditched...

Thanks again folks. I'll check out that DUI harness and also the XS pockets. I might re-think it but right now I'm in the "want ditchable weight" camp, even if rstofer and I are the only ones around the campfire.
