Many years ago a buddy and I faced some large waves at a dive site. We were men though, we were there, we had driven some distance, and "what's the worse that could happen?" My buddy made it through the breakers. I was hit. My mask was down around neck, and one fin was knocked loose but not off. You made the right decision.

The rescue/body recovery folks around here call that "The Sacramento Syndrome." The longer the drive to the coast the less likely you are to turn around when conditions are dangerous.

Well I'da prolly washed up on shore anyway but ... I call it the dumbasss syndrome, and that was the one time I did such a dumbasss thing. Fortunately for me I was strong enough, and in good enough physical condition that I lived with no injury, and no loss of gear. Been faced with that decision again but always chose the wiser course. I have seen others do the same thing, and always made a point to say "If you want some advice from someone else who knew better but did it anyway ... I wouldn't go there if I were you."

Burger King to Pebble to Plum to nowhere, Niles the next day sounds awfully familiar...I must have been, like, there, or something. I'm gonna guess I've seen you in the pool at the club in Westboro, Malpaso...
