Well, its a lot better than black or green... And around here we usually don't have ambient light and have to rely on light from HIDs, so all the available light is fairly white anyway...

Understood, now. Thanks for the explanation.

riguerin:
Are you serious about this ???
Yep, there were even bicentennial fins made of red white and blue rubber
riguerin:
You have to let TekDiveGirl know were she can find a pair ! She would kill for a pair of pink jets size XL.
She might have to. I have seen some pretty big money bid for them on eBay.

From NetDoc's Stuck Thread at the top of this forum...
Just a few guidelines...
1) No trolling! This is not the place for agency bashing! This is especially not a place for bashing DIR divers. Refer to What is Trolling for any questions about what constitutes a troll.
2) This forum is for a free exchange of ideas concerning DIR, but it is NOT intended to limit any mention of DIR to only this forum. There are many things pertaining to DIR that will be discussed in other forums as well.
3) All the rules of the board still apply here. You don't get to harrass or call people names. Civility should rule.
4) Most of all, have fun and learn something at the same time. Read our Mission statement and TOS for clarification.
5) This forum is NOT intended to replace or reduce the need for training with a qualified instructor. You might get more out of this forum if you have at least completed a DIR-f course.
6) The answers in this forum are member's best attempts to answer questions within, and according the DIR diving philosophy. If you wish to give a non-DIR answer, please do not post it in this forum. If you do not wish your question to be limited to DIR answer, please ask it in another applicable forum.

Just curious, why the push for black gear when diving DIR?
Well, mebbe a little song will help explain it all ...

I see a red wing and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the strokes walk by dressed in their neon clothes
I have to turn my head because their snorkel glows
I see a line of fins and they’re all painted black
My drysuit came in blue I have to take it back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a rant from GI3 it just happens ev’ry day
I look inside my mask and see the skirt is black
I see my red wing and it has been painted black
Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy to find your team when their whole kit is black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
My gear will be black till they invent a darker hue
If I look hard enough with my Halcyon HID
I’ll spot the blue H on my buddy’s BCD

I see a red wing and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the strokes walk by dressed in their neon clothes
I have to turn my head because their snorkel glows
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!

The seemingly innocent query, yet the subject matter is ridiculous enough that if your brain isn't engaged you may actually think there is a "push for black gear when diving DIR..."

Nicely played.

I wear black because I like it. Land or sea. I wear black.

I have a Black DS. Everything else is black because that's the color it comes in (can light, wing, hood, rock boots, fins, etc...) Except for my blue gloves, the rest is black. Oh - my tank is the lovely dull gray all tanks aspire to.

I leave the colors to the Sandal's billboards. And the dive mag covers.

Black is the new black.
