I really appreceate all of the input! Thanks all.

Looks like lighting is another matter of strong diametrically opposed opinions. I still need so many things (especially a bottom timer, watch, pockets for cf200, another tank), and have spent so much already, that I might end up going based on price for now and plan to upgrade to HID in a couple of years. It seems like a decent focused beam halogen would probably be decent enough for now, though I am tempted by the HID. It seems the HID is likely going to be closer to $400 in the end if I shop around, and the halogen I can get for between $100 and $200 if I shop.

The difference U/W between the two is literally night and day...IMO..there's no comparison.

With my left hand....are you sure you didn't mean store it? B/C that's the real issue I've run into with it...I haven't found a real good place to keep it yet, but for 100$ I think I can "tony-rig" something soon...I'll have something before the end of this season I bet.

No, actually I meant hold it. If I remember correctly, the LC does not have a Goodman type handle, correct? That means that for you to do anything with that left hand (where you hold the light), you need to drop the light or pass it off to the other hand. Unless I'm missing something.

Clipping it off is another issue...

Yeah...it's a pain...the left hand is pretty much for the light only...Right now, I have a long enough lanyard (yeah...I know, I know...not perfect..but hey, neither am I) to tuck it under my arm if I need to do something so it's not dangling...I haven't tried bloaing a bag with it yet...namely b/c I don't own a bag...but that is changing soon.

Are there any special requirements for canister lights, as far as DIR goes, other than focused beam preference? How's the Pro Watt fit in with DIR?

I used one of those a few years ago and from what I remember it was pretty large and might not fit too well belt-mounted, I'd try one on for size before buying.

Thanks for the heads up, Ben. I assume you're refering to the Prowatt specifically?

a couple of different 50w halogens (loaners) to getting my own 10W HID...a custom canister using a DR light head. It's compact and a joy to use.

The difference is really remarkable. Altho the halogens seemed bright enough while I was using them, the HID beam provides noticeably more illumination. Price is always a factor, but I really get tired of buying stuff and then upgrading and having to sell the item I didn't want in the first place...

Also, I noticed the Pro Watt only has 80 min burn time...that seems pretty short.

What did you end up spending on your rig, cyklon?

Yes, the cannister is shaped roughly rectangular, tapering towards the bottom and I doubt it would fit well on a belt.

$450 for the light and another $40 for the Powersonic charger.
