OK - no BS. Your instructor is lying. The longest cave penetration on record is approximately 18,000 feet. The longest scuba dive ever, in open water, is something like 20 miles.

200 miles in a cave is ludicrous.

but sense noone seems to take anything seriously around here it really isnt worth posting.

well... since the longest cave system (not dive) i know of is 35 miles (in Mexico), and
the longest cave dive is 3.4 miles (at Wakulla) we're all having a bit of trouble with
the 200 mile claim

I can name 4 cave systems off the top of my head much longer than 35 miles, and one that's well over 200 miles ;)

please do! also links would be appreciated.

the longest one i know of is El Jacinto (35 miles)

not fair! dry caves don't count

Mammoth is up around 360 miles, Gypsum in the Ukraine, Jewel and Wind in South Dakota, and Lechuguilla in New Mexico are all over 100 miles.

Course, they're not flooded ;)

Boogie711:
I believe Jonnythan is being a smart aleck and referring to dry systems, not underwater cave dives.
Smart aleck? Why, I never :11:

i wont drop any names here but i recently had a discussion with my tech instructor who is fully qualified and dives with the likes of dan crowell and john chatterton about tech diving and why dir is nothing but a bunch of crap. how does everyon else feel about this?

Hrmmm - you have 50-100 dives and have a tech instructor eh? I think that in itself is quite interesting....
