This thread was created a long time ago when GUE was actually not so well known as it is today. At the time the 'pro' and 'anti' camps were often at each others throats resulting in huge internet arguments!
If you are simply saying that GUE training is not for everyone and some people could probably spend their money better on other things - I don't think that many would disagree. In the meantime I think that most people have realized and accepted that while it may not be for them personally, the training itself is excellent and as a foundation for all diving skills, hard to beat.
Remembering though that the original point of it all was to provide a safer way to conduct the more technical natured dives - deco/caves etc. whether it's fully necessary for your average good visibility reef tourist becomes a less important question.

Kim:
He's probably basing it on the fact that OE2X is a professional photographer with a lot of published work! :eyebrow:

Fine...but I was actually responding to somwthing Steven Donathan wrote.

Which seems to be about par for how closely people are reading what I am writing.

Um, that's what I said.

However, I do take exception to the "reef tourist" crack.

But in your response you quoted something that I wrote ... if you're responding to a specific individual it would be easier to understand your intent if you quoted the person you are responding to ... rather than someone else.

Well - as I was describing myself you may take all the exception you like. I am not a GUE trained diver so I don't have an agenda here. I don't like anyone who takes themselves too seriously - my post was simply meant to reflect that.
If you aren't a 'reef tourist' - fine! The vast majority of us are - there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Um, I was responding to you. It's not my fault if you were talking out of your butt and didn't take the time to read what had gone before.

Hey - we don't talk to each other like that here. As a matter of fact it was completely unclear who you were talking about.
I have tried to cool this down - obviously without success. Please from now contain yourself or expect consequences.

NWGratefulDiver:
ROFL ... you'd lose that bet ...

I'm neutral. If I followed the thread properly I think Blueeyes said this:
Still, I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that my basic photographic skills are more advanced than his/hers simply because it is a field I have been interested in and worked to improve my skills in for over ten years.

in response to Taopitek saying this:
I'll wave to you next time I'm hovering above you while your lost in your cloud of muck.

and Djanni saying this:
See... a few posts back it got you this comment: "I'll wave to you next time I'm hovering above you while your lost in your cloud of muck."
I bet either of us could out dive that guy in our sleep.

So I don't think he was betting against OE2X's photographic skills. However, Taopitek may also be a great photographer.

Well that kinda proves the point doesn't it? To me he said he was responding to Steven Donathan, so it is rather unclear what's going on.
As I already said though - there is no reason or excuse not to keep it civil. Misunderstandings can occur and if there is one here then I'm sure it can be worked out without unacceptable comments.
