So, even though driving is more dangerous it is OK to be a so-so driver. But you *must* be a super diver or not at all.

I support your right to make that choice but don't try to convince me that it is logical. ;)

I don't know that any one has said that. In fact we see lots of imcompetency on the road and it kills thousands of people every year.

I drive alot and some of the stuff I see is really something.

Actually, there are many iterations of ABS, some really good, and some not so well-thought out! The good ones can beat the performance of a human being any day of the week, and their response is ADDITIVE, i.e. helps out the human.
I guess the system on your vehicle is not one of the good ones, since you seem so irritated with it.

Im afraid there isn't a good one under all road conditions and the next generation fuzzy logic modules and ASC it may be better but still questionable under all circumstances. Sensing is still the question and the infinite# of varibles not to mention cost and reliability. Once read a article on building a computer program to gig a frog...............nuff said

Quimby,

Well, does dodging between the buildings and under the Golden Gate Bridge count??----(Done in the Sim, folks, not for real!!) ;)

LOL. I've never driven a Jet but on a car sometimes it's useful to be able to lock your weels.

Hence, the "broadside skid" in your signature line, Mike! ;)

I never did see a computer program that could gig a frog.

I also never saw a frog swim backwards.

I have seen a frog kick in a skillett. :D
At least the legs did. :eyebrow:

---A computer program to gig a frog---??!!?? Man, I'm having a tough time getting my head around that one! :11:

So here you go, folks. The DIR versus the world thread, which will grow as I find the literally dozens and dozens of similar discussions that already exist on the board.

Believe me, there's nothing new that can be said, but as long as we're all repeating ourselves, it might as well be in one place.

Enjoy your new playground.

Roger

Ps. About the 12 year old rule: There's a comic book character by the latter name of this topic, so it passes.

Of course, as was noted by one of our Moderators, THIS forum is NOT the DIR forum. There is a separate and reserved place for them.

Folks,

Just as a point to be able to state my opinion, DIR is only "God's Gift to Diving" if you are of the cult that believes in GI3 as "God Incarnated for the 3rd time".

This is NOT to say, however, that "DIR"-style diving does not have things that are good and helpful to teach us as divers.

Who, after all, can argue that streamlining your rig (as much as is possible) is a bad idea? Who can argue that constant practice to attain good bouyancy and trim is bad? Who can argue that a frog-kick (or some form of it) is not a good way to keep from stirring up the silt? Who can argue that staying in shape, not smoking, and living a healthier life-style is in any way BAD advice, for God's sake! (You will pardon, I hope, my intentional double entendre! ;) )

The attempt to get the general rank of divers to strive for better practices is a "Good Work", and a long, tough row to hoe. Unfortunately, the good message has been obscured, at times, by the sheer arrogance of some of the movement's leaders, and by some of its (self-professed) acolytes.

(Again, as a merely personal aside, I have friends who are practioners of the "art", instructors in the cave community for instance, from whom I have learned. I value them as friends, and for what they have taught me. I still laugh ruefully about some of it!)

So, are they "God's Gift"? The answer must of course be a resounding: "NO". Are they "Hellspawn"? The answer must also be a resounding: "NO".
