All this endless argueing and bashing back and forth about DIR/non DIR needs to end.

Amen! There are holiday divers, seasonal enthusiasts, frequent divers, technical divers, hard-core technical divers, and more. Within the broad spectrum of divers there is room for a whole range of skill levels, equipment types, and diving styles. What may be a prefect setup for a holiday diver may be suicide for a hard-core technical diver. The issue is rarely what "is best" in a universal sense, but "what works best for you" and the type of diving you do. As for the basics, no one can or should lay claim to ownership of such basics as streamlining and bouyancy control. These are just basic skills that SHOULD be taught by and practiced by everyone.

That would be nice Chad... but I think that as long as folks start threads asking about DIR (sometimes obviously only to start an arguement) it is profitable to try to give cogent answers.

And djhall you are right... those basic skills should be taught and practice by everyone... everyone should take *ownership*!

Unfortuantely it seems as though (at least around here) only the DIR folks have taken ownership... while the rest go about there business as rototillers.

I agree Unc., however, most of the posts that follow, on both sides, end up not being cogent, they merely start flaming. Your posts, and those of some others, are the exceptions.

If everyone would either just answer in a respectful manner, even if the original post wasn't asked in that tone, or ignore it altogether, then maybe the flaming would stop.

Just my thoughts.

I do thank those that take the time to provide knowledge to us all.

I have to keep reminding myself that I am not just answering the original poster but everyone else reading the thread as well.

In fact I was just thinking about that when you first posted on this thread.

Even though some folks like to start inflammatory threads about DIR... it is really an opportunity for me to calmly explain my perspective... since I can't reach into the monitor and pinch their heads off anyway. :D

I appreciate your input Mr. Pug. I have learned alot from you and hope to learn more in the future.

We should be able to wire up a set of electrodes to deliver a nasty shock, that'd be pretty easy. (have to be self applied on the honor system)
I bet some of the posters here would clamp 'em on their cat tho...
:bonk:

Too true UP. Besides, I think everyone who reads the posts gets to know what's up after a while. I've only been around a week or so, but I can already tell a few people who just like being an a**, a few who are generally pretty calm but can get riled up when provoked, and few who poke-fun in a good-natured and tolerant way, and even one or two who seem afraid to speak up for fear of getting bashed or flamed. Don't let the trollers bring you down to their level.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Why the heck do we have to kick the dead horse. I am sick of the Dir / Anti Dir posts. Pick your configuartion, gear, deco gases, procedures, blah blah blah... and do what the heck you feel like doing.

Com'on Andy... new folks are popping onto the board all the time... you may be getting tired of it... (shoot I'm getting tired of it) but what is *old stuff* to us is *new stuff* to them.... at least that is the pep talk I'm giving myself right now. :D

Seems I've spent a lot of time emptying my inbox of PMs from posters asking questions so I could receive more from other posters asking questions.... come to think of it I even had some in there from you several cycles back ;)

Here on the board, I have learend a few things...one is that there is more to dving than I ever thought. Another is that there is a constant heated debate going on around DIR.

Personally I don't care if one person wants to argue with another, but please do it in a PM or something, don't crash the boards with garbage for people to read.

The most important thing I've learned is that I really have the desire to further my eduaction as far as diving. I had no idea there were so many philosiphies in diving until I joined the board. I also have learned a bit more about some medical conditions that might creep up. Anyway, long story short, there seems to be some real genius (common sense really) behind the DIR philosiphy. Why make things more complicated than they have to be? I want to learn as much as I can....if I end up going DIR, great, if not, it might not be suited for me. Who knows, I'll find out the more info I gather.

To those who regularly post to further the info / reality of diving to those of us who are "new". I thank you, I have learned tons, and I hope to lern more.
