All this endless argueing and bashing back and forth about DIR/non DIR needs to end.
Amen! There are holiday divers, seasonal enthusiasts, frequent divers, technical divers, hard-core technical divers, and more. Within the broad spectrum of divers there is room for a whole range of skill levels, equipment types, and diving styles. What may be a prefect setup for a holiday diver may be suicide for a hard-core technical diver. The issue is rarely what "is best" in a universal sense, but "what works best for you" and the type of diving you do. As for the basics, no one can or should lay claim to ownership of such basics as streamlining and bouyancy control. These are just basic skills that SHOULD be taught by and practiced by everyone.
