I got nothing against diving Manhattan. I'm just waiting for the water to get to 80 degrees in the East River and I'm *there* :)

But don't think I'm not a cold water diver. I've been known to dive in water as frigid at 65 degrees if it's *really* good diving!

Exactly, don't let these drysuit-diving polarbears call you a wimp, my man. FWIW, I was diving Cali in sub-60 degree waters wet and my partners all thought I was nuts. I think they're right, but it was still a lot of fun, albeit cold fun. That, and the fact that I still get chilled in Hawaii, pushed me over the edge for a drysuit. Deals can be found.

Peace,
Greg

I'm also a new diver using a hogarthian rig and DIR practices beaten into me by mentors. I've also heard the "technical" moniker applied to my rig and my habit of frog kicking by members of the PADI tribe. My small experience agrees with those who have pointed out the futility of getting into a discussion about the whys and wherefors unless it is with someone who is genuinely curious.

I'm just finishing up a trip to Cozumel for reef diving, and for the first time I heard my rig described as "minimalist." I kind of like that perspective, even if it isn't as minimalist as the vintage folks. I may use that line in the future: "Oh no, it isn't technical, it's minimal."

Hey, we're all kind of wimpy compared to our neighbors to the north...

And I thought that I was thick blooded. Amazing.

PeterB,
Even if you are not fully "DIR" are you glad that you made the switch? I am never going back, so long as I can help it. People have opinions and they like to make you just like them. You have to seek. If you do, you will find. Are there any tips that you need answers to, not concerning other people's opinions?
