+1 for Bob Sherwood, he IS the Mayor of Dutch Springs.[/QUOTE]

That's right. He's like the Wayne Newton of NE scuba diving....................... and NOBODY
****s with Newton.

PeterB,

I'm about in the same boat as you, diving a Hog rig with a bunch of Air2s and split fins. Just let them say what they want, and if someone shows genuine interest talk to them about the rig. But if they're just talking crap, let it go. I've noticed a large portion of local instructors here are very institutionalized into their system and anything else is just plain wonky. I just accept it as part of living on an island and move on.

PS: I can't say anything about Fundies (yet...) but my Essentials class taught me a good bit about how to really make my rig perform. You'll learn lots from a good instructor.

Peace,
Greg

If you need a buddy at Dutch PM me, I can give you the $5.00 tour. :D

Thanks :) Will start to think about it when we get out of the bone chilling cold . . .

It seems these people have no clue what they are looking at, perhaps they are not educated in that area? Or as someone else mentioned, looking to sell you different gear from their shop. Stick with what works for you. Theres nothing wrong with your rig.

Why wait? You missed the last three hours of the season on New Year's, but it's never too early to start thinking about it!

One of the best things about getting into local diving is that you don't have to wait for your once a year trip to a tropical paradise to start filling up your logbook. Hey, Manhattan is an island too, you know...

:)

Boy, I was going to say you're braver than I am, doctormike, but then I remembered that nilsdiver has video proof of me diving in a snowstorm last March!

Hehehe... hey, it's the same temperature at depth as it is in August! And I know that you are brave, having dived in your neighborhood in the PNW last spring...

Fortunately, I have a nice protective layer of subcutaneous dry suit underwear that I bring with me at all times...

I got nothing against diving Manhattan. I'm just waiting for the water to get to 80 degrees in the East River and I'm *there* :)

But don't think I'm not a cold water diver. I've been known to dive in water as frigid at 65 degrees if it's *really* good diving!
