Twomixdiver:
It would be nice to know how many Philippine divers who took DIR-F still dive DIR. In this I mean: the use of dive team protocols, the use of ratio deco (no computer), and the exclusive use of nitrox (no air).

.

the team protocols have its use if the dive would be technical or in overhead environments or in extraodinary circumstances. however in recreational diving it poses a stress point especially if you dive with non-credentialed buddies (friends not DIR-F). other than that diving DIR gives a measure of safety net IF the person is comfortable with the rigging.

but of those that progressed to Tech and above, their attitude really goes back to "earth"

as for doing deco dive without computers.... that;s our protocol, we do our planning and computations and write them doenon our slates/mini slates or so called runtimers and just bring timing devices, the computers are set to timers only... then we rely on our plan and buddies as reduntancy and check each at regular intervals.

Ah... Ok , I stand corrected. What tables do they use in DIR-F? Decoplanner?

Martin's suggestion (when I took the course at least) was to track and use average depth with the approapriate tables. The tables are pretty generic (use whatever you have), but he taught an easy to remember method to come up with them on the spot if necessary; start with 30m for 20 min and then +/- 5 min per -/+ 3m (so 25min at 27m or 15min at 33m, for example), you can add more time at shallow depths and after a while you'll remember whatever table you are using.

Ideally you should use it with EAN32 down to 30m (after adjusting for EAD i.e. move the times down two rows), but I use it with other gases too. He also proposed a slow ascent starting from 80% ATA and 1 min stops at 9/6/3m, respectively. But the larger point is that you don't really need a computer, you just need to figure out a reasonable way to dive without it and this is a starting point. You can play around with deco software to get a better idea of what kind of profiles you should be diivng. (And I don't track SI's, but that an issue of some contraversy).

Heretic!

You are going to die a slow and horrible death of being beaten over the head with dive-computerisms until you give in.

Just wait until NetDoc and Charlie99 get ahold of you!

Uhmmmm I do track SI's... I'm sure Limeyx does too.... Right classmate? You just have to adjust your profile.

Twomix.... The DIR-F level guys use the MDL table for NDL dives... Once you get used to it it's really easy to use... I'll tell you more over a beer next week

PM sent.

Right, I definitely track SI's.
I think there's an argument if you use plenty of pure O2 for deco that you might be able to cut them considerably.

Generally, I do 60 min SI, and do a slow ascent on subsequent dives (6 min up from 20).

I'd be wary of the "you're going to die" crowd -- I think they are overthinking the problem quite considerably. It's really a lot simpler than might be made out by a lot of people.

there you said it, you don't think you are a better diver than anyone else, proves you are NOT one of those who upon passing claim monopoly on the knowledge.

and you are able to think for yourself . that distinguishes you from those who claim they are the ones and all the rest are unsafe.

Don't take offense as i believe you are not one of them, as Matthew stated , your report shows clearly that you are yourself still .

at the resort there are about 5 to 6 of DIR-F enrollees. and you could clearly see that most are free thinkers. they voice out their contrary view on what your teacher told the class to DO and not to DO. to quote unquote "i don't think he has the right to tell me to dive with just a certain group..."

one of them has logged on to SB and PPD as well..... you will learn of him when he gets his DIR-F. they are done with the course, and just like johhnythan , they were told that they passed, but no card as yet......:eyebrow:
