I do it over the hood. Have switch many times for pratice. Man, that water can be COLD!!! GM nice reply

Kept strap under hood when diving with sea lions and when doing Braille wrecks. I usually keep strap out, but put strap under hood when teaching (cavern, ice, etc..). Less apt to get kicked off or pulled off U/W.
I've never had the pleasure of losing a mask underwater. I've simulated losing one in Ginnie, coming back from the dunes without one on. Made deco a little tougher, but had the advantage of freshwater. I usually deco without a mask for the shallow wedges (20 & 10).
