Jedi,
I know it is not geographically easy, but I am at the Blue Lagoon (North of Huntsville) most weekends, and Lake Travis (Austin) once every couple of months. If you are ever down this way, please PM or email me and I would be more than glad to dive with you once my classes are over.

Firefyter:
Take the chance and meet some of these folks out there, it will definitely be worth your trip.

Also - I've been to CSSP and dove with about half the folks who are regulars here in the Dallas area (foo, twobit, scubajana etc) and those folks know all the others I've haven't had a chance to meet yet. So if someone I know trusts someone I haven't met yet, then it's like a good reference. Doesn't mean that you might not be 'best buds' right off the bat, but it's a good place to start.
After a while you'll find you enough folks to dive with that you won't have the 'wanna dive - no buddy' problem. In fact last weekend, i was diving with one bunch of friends in the morning and found two other groups of people I knew that afternoon. And that's from starting from not knowing anybody this spring.

Like has been said, just check on the board and come on out and dive with us!

Now that you've found the swamp finding a buddy won't be a problem.
