He's your son... I'd suggest you give him your computer, and that you dive with table ...
The BT will be very likely be limited by the tables, but at least your son (and you) will have some idea and ways to track his ascent rate.
Of course the risk is that he'll figure out he can dive longer, which may not be a great idea, but you can make sure you are both limited by the table/original plan.
So far, we have been in relatively shallow quarries, so there have been no BT issues. We could dive all day with computer or RDP. I gave him my old digital timer, so he can monitor his ascent rate. I do not plan on giving him the computer, but will probably get him one at somepoint. But I would rather him do the tables for awhile. I think it is important to be comfortable with them.
As I said, he always does his calculations, and we are never near NDL. Our profiles are pretty much identical, because he stays approximately 19.563 inches from my right side throughout our dives. My question was strictly a "what if" scenario...and the answers are pretty much what I was thinking. One of these days, we may venture to a charter boat, in which case, he will probably get a computer before we go.
