OK, so relative newbie question:

I'm starting to get some of my gear together and wanted to get a good regulator, so I grabbed a good deal on an Atomic Z1 (LDS was making way for the new Z2).

I am now looking at getting an Octo. Any issues with going with a different manufacturer? My thought is to go with an Octo that is still good quality, but doesn't have to be top of the line. It just has to work for me the (hopefully) few times I need it.

Thinking somewhere in the $150 range for an Octo.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

There are no issues at all with mixing manufacturers. For example, I use a Genesis first stage, Scubapro primary second which is actually the yellow "octo" model of the r380, Sherwood octo which is the primary model of some long forgotten line of regs and a Suunto pressure guage. And I haven't died yet :)

spend $100 or less on a XS Scuba Airwave Octo, it's a balanced pneumatic octo at a great price that will pair up very nicly with the Z2 ( a GREAT reg and real value BTW)

what about the viper octo what do you guys think?

It's solid.

The problem with Dacor is with service. They were purchased by Mares and their future is uncertain. Newer Dacor models are supported while the older ones are not. So I would pass on it. One problem you may have is service if you go with different brands. Some dealers may only be able to service one or the other stage. How much is another Z-1? If you are willing to spend $150 and the dealer is willing to deal then why not just get another one?

I have a mixed set of regs also. Zeagle Envoy 1st and 2nd stages, older US Divers Sea4 as an octo (my old reg), and a simple ScubaPro SPG. Everything works great!

Thanks for the input. That helps significantly.

If I wind up with two different brands of regulators I'll be sure that my LDS is authorized to service both.
