Did anyone notice the change in our forum name? It used to be Rocky Mountain Oysters, and now it is Rocky Mountain Region.

I noticed it a couple of days ago, and then I found a thread about a similar name change in for the Florida Conch Divers: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/florida-diving/430884-did-forum-name-get-changed.html. That thread explained the reasons that all the regional names are being changed.

With that change, I thought I would take a trip down memory lane and tell the story of the founding of this forum. I joined ScubaBoard in 2004, and it took me a while to figure out all the different forums. (Actually I still haven't figured them all out, but I am far ahead of where I used to be.) When I saw that there was a section for regional forums, I was surprised that there was nothing for our entire region. I asked what had to be done to make that happen, and I was told I had to assure a certain minimum number of participants. I can't remember exactly how I did it, but I started advertising for people who would be interested in a forum for our region. Eventually I got the required number of names and submitted it for approval.

Once it was approved, we needed a name. Many names were suggested, and eventually the consensus fell to one suggested by Ron Frank of Conifer, Colorado: Rocky Mountain Oysters. (If there are any of you who do not know what a Rocky Mountain Oyster is, it is a rarely served culinary delicacy created by what is left over when a bull becomes a steer.)

And so I hope you will all join me in bidding a fond farewell to a name that served us for 8 years. (Sniff! Sniff!)

We call them Cafe Fries over here, just another part of a tasty BBQ dinner. Yummy!

Beaver Divers is aware of the name change.

Here’s the thread, started by boulderjohn, which led to everything else (over 900 threads in the seven-plus years, and counting):
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/rocky-mountain-region/84445-rocky-mountain-diving.html
in it, ABQdiver came up with the additional description that was carried for a while:

Divers with Altitude
Someone later added an “an” which I think was the opposite of an improvement.

And this thread shows the forum start date:

Is there a smiley for “taps”?

- knotical (former Oyster)

What a nice reminder. It is interesting to see how many names are still with us but sad to see how many have gone away. It is also interesting that 30% of that original 10 members went on to become moderators.

Calf fries.

Obviously spelling is not my strong suit and I am way to dependent on my spell checker :)
