Tried to do Bass Rocks first but should have known better than to try and enter into 4 foot breaking waves. I got past the breakers and found 5' vis with lots of surge. Ah yes.... now I got to exit those same breakers. Good gravy! I won't do that again anytime soon.

We looked at Pebble but a diver exiting said he had the same conditons/problems I did. We then went to Old Garden and had much better conditions. 10' vis and water temp of 59 degrees. I stupidly parked in the lot and got a $25 ticket. I ended up with 5 bugs so it was still worth it. That first dive really sucked all my energy so I apologize for my bare bones report.

When I came up 40 minute's into my second dive, the fog had rolled in tight. I could see about 40 feet in either direction. While I tried to confirm my bearings, a lobster boat nearly ran me (and my flag) over. He turned back around and stopped next me. He then proceeded to yell at me about not being visible enough and that I should be prepared to die if I kept diving like this.

For the record, we had no fog at all when we entered, we were app. 200 yards off of Old Garden Beach, we were inside of the closest trap from shore and I never heard an engine until he came out of the fog at about 20 kt's. Me thinks he was a tad bit lost and I freaked him out. Needless to say we went back down and swam back to the beach.

Funny how his failure to pay attention somehow became my fault. We divers are pure EVIL :drejnd:

Why were you diving from shore yesterday? I avoid shore dives like The Plague when my boat is in the water. Speaking of that, this weekend is looking like crap so far. I hope a window opens for us to get out there.

Because my buddy is still pretty new and wasn't real keen on the whole diving off a boat thing. Believe me, I don't plan on shore diving again for a looooooong time.

James Goddard:
I see no reason for personal attacks here. Lets keep things nice.

Am I just an idiot? I have no idea where the personal attacks are in this thread.

...he will never want to go back! We're going to shoot for the Crane and a shallower 2nd dive tomorrow. I hope we get a decent weather window.

I think someone miss-understood the good-ole new england diver banter and jabs. ah, too bad. but no harm no foul. We are all good souls here, and it's all in good fun. I like the PM "warning" idea though (good call matt), thread-derailment is a drag...

cheers all
