I don't see what the issue with this is. It appears to work just fine using Google Chrome.

The options are messed up:

We used to have options to do things like changing our chat message colours, but now they are stuck to what we had set before the update.

The image you have shown shows the issue with the wrapping being broken. Notice how your "when" cut off mid word instead of wrapping before or after the word.

There are NO CHAT SOUNDS this is the biggest issue for me as I keep missing messages now.

I am not experiencing the issue WetPup is having, however I am not surprised. The chat you said was upgraded but honestly it seems like it went back to a previous version with less features and bugs.

I don't mean to be in chat at all but I gather I've accidentally hit something and now I'm in chat and can't find a way out. It's st the base of medicine screen. Very annoying. Please help. If nothing else please log me out of chat using your superpowers thanks

Never mind. I found it. DISABLE CHAT is the very last option on the chat options page.

I just checked chat now and it looks like the settings are back. If you look at my picture you'll notice that the settings are not in that bar for me. They are now showing up though so someone must have enabled it again.
