On Saturday 11/12/05 I and another person rom this board did a night dive at North Beach at Hampton,NH. Since this was my first night dive I wanted to keep it as simple as possible and North Beach did just that . I don't think we got any deeper then about 18 feet, and the major atraction was aboout a 50 yard swim wheich ended up as a small group of rocks.

There was a larger group about 70 yards further to the right, but we basicaly stayed where we were. We did see many crabs, a few very smalll lobstas or possibly shrimp, and many small tiny baby fish. The water temp was about 41 and the air temp was 33. Not a bad dive for the first night dive, I at least got to see what it was like, before I go onto more difficult and deeper night dives next summer.

Sounds like my first nite dive. What a difference a little darkness makes, huh?

On a different note, are you heading to PDC this season? (I'm booked for April 17)

I'll be there a month before you will be.

Was a good time diving with you again Stogey. Little on the shallow side but definitely good for a first night dive. Sure was cold, 33° air temp after the last dive. Looking forward to the dry suit.

I've seen bioluminescence (sp?) during night dives in Cape Anne (Folly, Cath rocks)
Totally cool. Turn off light for sec, swish hand around and see little microorganisms light up. What sucks about night dive is time get back home. Many of nights gear left in trunck and got rinsed in AM..

That is exactly what I did, that is wash my gear in the morning, and I didn't even feel guilty after I got through with my therapy session.

Night diving in New England waters....not that much different than diving in the daylight visibility-wise anyway. What is nice about night diving is how everything comes out at night. Fish are attracted by the lights and the lobsters come right out and look at you - I guess because they know you can't take them at night. :-)

Oops I didn't know that you couldn't take lobstas at night. Besides how often are the game wardens around at night anyways?

um (Besides how often are the game wardens around at night anyways?)
Dont go there you never know who is watching!!!!
It's not worth it.

You'd be surprised. The EP know very well a lot of poaching (not just lobsters) is done at night so you can bet they are out there. Here in RI I have found I get checked on probably 25% of all my night dives but I almost never get checked during daylight hours.
