A beautiful, sunny, COLD, COLD day on my new boat. Everything worked wonderfully. Water was 46 degrees. 15' vis with no surge. Found some scallops but not in the concentration I hoped for. I think my "secret" bed isn't a secret any more. Ended up with 8 lobsters too. I might try again tomorrow if the winds aren't too bad.

You diving dry or wet? Thinking of a one tanker w/ my bro tomorrow on the SS(since I've been trying to get wet for a month w/ zero luck). I'd like to see if I'm gonna freeze my tail off or not. I'd be diving wet. Thanks.

I did two 70 minute dives. The water was the good part. The surface interval and motoring between spots was excruciating. The is no way I would have done that today wet and I used to do hour long dives wet in 38 degree water.

If you do go, please be very, very careful and get your butt back into a warm area FAST! My wet face was numb from the air before I even got all the way up the ladder.

Thanx for the info.

I managed to find a buddy and will try Hallibut Point tomorrow.

Air temperature is supposed to be much better, but vis would probobly be much worse. If I'll get the 15 feet you speak of, I'll be very happy.

Let's see if all the lobsters are gone for the season, or maybe I'll get lucky and spear a tasty Cod.

Remember, beds move..

but I'd prefer to think that the 2 years I spent finding the area weren't all in vain. I should have clarified that the "new" spot where I found them last trip was pretty barren. Still managed to get a gallon in a dive but really had to work for them. I'm getting too old and lazy to schlep half-full bags around ;)

For those considering going out this weekend...

My brother and I decided to try STB for one quick am dive today(wet) and the conditions were quite good given that we are in the 2nd week in November. Stiff SW winds that hardly effected the water, but made for a chilly exit and removal of gear. No possibility of any SI or 2nd dive. Did a 60 minute dive(little chilly by the end) -- max depth 23 feet w/ 50F @ depth, very slight current, viz about 10 to 12 feet. Little u/w activity except for crabs and rays. Managed to find lunch even though it was slim pickings. This will be probably be it for 2004.

What is that gross-looking, whitish-yellow sponge stuff growing on every other rock? Too bad you couldn't eat that stuff, it was all over the place. Appears to be quite invasive.

Sound like fun. Sorry I couldn't join you guys.

You may have seen a tunicate?? There was an earlier discussion on it: http://www.scubaboard.com/t72242-.html

Cool, I've been out today as well.

My buddy canceled so I went alone to Cathedral Rocks where I've been before. It was really warm around 11 AM and no wind at all. No waves either. It's funny, while I was changing, two different people came out and said exactly the same thing: "Damn, what a nice day, I wish I brought my dive gear with me." Hehe, I haven't seen a single diver today except myself and I drove through all the spots today before deciding on Cathedral Rocks. It's nice having an ocean all to yourself.

Anyway, much less lobsters than usual. Most of them were in deeper water. I spent most of the dive looking for the anchor one of the divers told me about. Good directions. Was able to find it after about 25 minutes by using the compass and some underwater landscape features. That made my day : I don't need no stinkin' navigation course! The anchor is pretty big, too big to take as a souvenir :) There is a biggie lobster living underneath it, an egger unfortunately (or I would have said "was living"). Saw a Cod too, but as I am not too good with sizes, it swam away while I was trying to measure it. I won't be so nice next time - I'll measure it on my plate :) The anchor is in 50-60 feet of water on a really long rock formation, I'm going to explore it more on some other dive. Vis was 15-20 feet. Water was 48 degrees, but I combined my Bare suit and another Henderson upper part to give me 14 inches all over upper body, so I was really warm.

I didn't go for a second dive because of a really bad leg cramp I got at the end of the first dive.
