Cool, I've been out today as well.
My buddy canceled so I went alone to Cathedral Rocks where I've been before. It was really warm around 11 AM and no wind at all. No waves either. It's funny, while I was changing, two different people came out and said exactly the same thing: "Damn, what a nice day, I wish I brought my dive gear with me." Hehe, I haven't seen a single diver today except myself and I drove through all the spots today before deciding on Cathedral Rocks. It's nice having an ocean all to yourself.
Anyway, much less lobsters than usual. Most of them were in deeper water. I spent most of the dive looking for the anchor one of the divers told me about. Good directions. Was able to find it after about 25 minutes by using the compass and some underwater landscape features. That made my day : I don't need no stinkin' navigation course! The anchor is pretty big, too big to take as a souvenir
There is a biggie lobster living underneath it, an egger unfortunately (or I would have said "was living"). Saw a Cod too, but as I am not too good with sizes, it swam away while I was trying to measure it. I won't be so nice next time - I'll measure it on my plate
The anchor is in 50-60 feet of water on a really long rock formation, I'm going to explore it more on some other dive. Vis was 15-20 feet. Water was 48 degrees, but I combined my Bare suit and another Henderson upper part to give me 14 inches all over upper body, so I was really warm.
I didn't go for a second dive because of a really bad leg cramp I got at the end of the first dive.

My brother and I decided to try STB for one quick am dive today(wet) and the conditions were quite good given that we are in the 2nd week in November. Stiff SW winds that hardly effected the water, but made for a chilly exit and removal of gear. No possibility of any SI or 2nd dive. Did a 60 minute dive(little chilly by the end) -- max depth 23 feet w/ 50F @ depth, very slight current, viz about 10 to 12 feet. Little u/w activity except for crabs and rays. Managed to find lunch even though it was slim pickings. This will be probably be it for 2004.
What is that gross-looking, whitish-yellow sponge stuff growing on every other rock? Too bad you couldn't eat that stuff, it was all over the place. Appears to be quite invasive.
