I am going to Coz on Dec 5 and would like to know if anyone has snorkeled any of the cenotes. My travel mate is a non -diver but snorkels.

Thanks,

Vanessar

some of the cenotes have snorkel tours. off hand i don't remember which do. I know Nachooh only does snorkel or cave. Find a copy of Steve Gerrard's Cenotes of the Riviera Maya. He lists what can or can't be done at the various sites though some of the info maybe a bit out of date now. Cenotes of the Riviera Maya

I've been down there with non-divers and did cenote snorkeling with them on the days I was not diving. It's definitely neat. There is a local tourism company called Alltournative - Off Track Adventures that can take you. I used them several times and always liked the trips.

I dove Devils throat and would do it again. When you drop out at 130 you never know what will be in view.

Will be diving the Cenotes in Jan.

I love Mexico!!!! Counting the days.....

Oh no....;) For DH and I, the best part of of Devils throat is not necessarily the tunnel or the throat, it's coming up afterward.....slowly.....and seeing the HUGE coral formations... Beautiful..... Sue Sue

Good point Sue... Mia & I have been to Cozumel 12 times and have over 150 dives there and still haven't done Devil's throat. It's not like we've actively avoided doing the dive, it's just never worked out. I guess it's a point of pride to say that we've never done it. :mooner:

I'm not a huge swim through fan, although Mia is, but I definitely do love the far southern sites for their towering formations. I'll keep that in mind next time and I promise not to veto it if it comes up for a vote. :D

Devils throat is an okay dive; to me I'd rather do colombia deep if I was down in that area and had a choice. A definite issue with devils throat IMO is the crowd that tends to accumulate in the swim through. If you're the only group down there that's one thing, if there are a few (and there usually are) then it's much less enjoyable.

The cenotes are amazing. Next time I'm in Coz I'm doing the cavern cert class with German, even though it means missing a few days of reef diving. If you can schedule it when a norte is coming through that's ideal, or I guess more likely if you're there and a norte is predicted, just sign up immediately for the cavern course. Once you're done with the course you can dive in the cenotes without a guide, making it much more economical. I think the average cost for a 2 tank cenote dive is about $120, maybe more.

Well Jeff, maybe next time we cross paths in Cozumel, we can make a group trip to Punta Sur/Devils Throat. It was really great seeing you and Mia again, even if it was only 1 day :): :(: .

I also wanted to add, that visiting Devils Throat, at least for us, depends on a few factors. We need to have been diving for 3 or 4 days, conditions good as far as current/weather, we ask our Divemaster if it is OK or not, and then of course, vote from the boat. If one person is not up for such a dive, then it would be fine to have a no go for us. This is one of the reasons we Dive with Blue XT Sea, in that these factors are always part of our dive plan. Oh, and BTW, take a flashlight !
