This is a fun little dive. Follow the exact same rules as diving the jetty in regards to tides, meaning shoot for high tide. Also, make sure you have a dive flag with you because they do write tickets in that area. The current can get ripping through the bridge when it is not a slack tide. Also, one of the biggest dangers is people on PWC. Most are rentals and they don't have a clue what they are doing. Do NOT surface unless you are near the shore or hugging a bridge piling. I have seen some real close calls there. Taught my kids to snorkel there years ago and I have dove there a few times. You can see some schools of fish come through, cow nose rays, etc. One of the things I used to do with the kids is break an oyster shell open from the pilings, and feed the pin fish meat...the bait fish will swarm you and the kids love it. Other then that, the only thing to do is to look around the pilings for small gobbies, blennies, etc.
What about diving under the Hwy 98 bridge? I heard if you go in on the West side of the bridge at the public parking area south of the Hwy that there is decent diving there around the bridge pileings. What is the best time to dive it (tides)? I was thinking about doing this dive monday.
