Work has been keeping me busy but I was determined to get in the water Monday. I got the gear together and headed out for my local underwater playground. Winds were low and the Gulf was flat so things were very promising. I got to the parking area and loaded the sand-yacht. When I had almost reached the entrance I noticed a familiar face - Trever was about to make a dive. It was hot and sunny so we decided to meet down by the jetty to talk. I ended up doing one and a half dives with him, an unexpected bonus for the day. The water looked a little green from the surface and as we entered the dive the reason became clear .... there was a heavy silt haze everywhere. Viz could have been 30'-40' if not for the haze. The haze changed during both dives but most of the dive viz was 15'-20'. By the end of dive two the haze brought viz down to about 10'. There were bits of June grass but nothing to get worried about. Jellyfish were present but not in bothersome numbers and mostly comb-jellies. The anchor is half covered with sand again. Currents were stiff at times coming in from the Gulf on both dives - made for some nice drifting on the way back in. Water temps had dropped from my last dive, I got 75* for most of both dives. The predominant fish character of the day was the ever entertaining damsel fish. They were all over guarding their rocks and biting my legs. I tried to get some good pics of them but, as usual, they move faster than lightening. Here are the pics from the dive:

Glad you made it out there Bill. I sure hope we can get some clear...less green water sometime this year!

Let me know when you are ready to go again...I need to rinse all the freshwater off my gear!:D

This month is tough to determine when I can dive due to work but July should bring my normal schedule back. Maybe Morrison will look good by then too so we can get to work on the cavern picture project.

Glad to hear you got back in the water SY, enjoyed the report and pics!

Nice pics as always... was getting worried you had given up diving...

And a lot of damsel pictures for not getting any.

Yes, we have to get back on that project. We actually have some new lights we can use when we do this project. It should be fun!

My gosh Man do you never tire of that "Walk of Death"? ;)

SeaYoda,
I'm glad to see you are posting photos again, because I always enjoy your pictures at the jetties. The damselfish pics turned out great. Too bad the viz wasn't a little better, although your picture of the diver makes it look fairly good at the instant the photo was taken. I look at the Destin beach cams every day, and there appears to have been some very benign conditions in the Gulf recently, so hopefully viz. will improve.
