This is the hollow plug. I am reconsidering the experiment with the solid plug.

1) no need to destroy the plug
2) no need to risk injuring myself

Would a tear have let water in and flipped you into vertigo or would clear tubes maintain positive pressure and left your ear bubbling?

No vertigo.

The experience was one of a "bubbling noise" in the right ear during several of my equalizations. If there is a tear it was tiny; I still had to equalize my right ear.
