Dell has some pretty good deals on computers these days and Its time I upgraded mine. I don't want to build my own, I just want to buy it outright. The problem is that I've heard Dell just buys a bunch of crappy componants and throws them together. I've heard some say they'd never buy one.

Anybody have any experiences with them?

Dell makes pretty quality computers, and their warranties are usually quite good. I used to run an IT department and purchased and used dozens upon dozens of Dells and was always pleased.

Buy one, but check out www.gotapex.com for a week or two before you do... I promise you will find a killer deal through that web site.

I've had three at home - perfect performance. My entire sales team (and me) have their laptops for about 4 years now (thru three model series) Perfect.

Excellent support, unbeatable prices. I can't imagine going with anything else. if you're not into building it from the ground up (case, motherboard, powersupply, drives, etc.) then get a Dell.

Been wonderful for me.

Most of what you hear is true, about the crappy stuff. And tech support is a direct hotline to hell. No one there speaks real English, and none of them know anything more than "Pleese twy restarhting serh" "Oohkay try deez an din call zis noombre bak ageen"

Then you call back: "Ooh, serh, Aiah cannut teel joo eech peersoon yoo speeked wif, cen aiah vee of heelp to joo?"

So, yes, I have had some experiences with them.

My modem was bad, they sent a dude with a new one, it was bad too. Finally just bought a good one myself. And all that was after 6+ hours hearing conversations similar to the above quotes.

My brother is responsible for supporting many of the PCs at Daimler-Chrysler in the U.S. He is in the process of signing a contract to buy several thousand computers from Dell. As you might expect, they did some checking before they decided on Dell. For what its worth.

For a short time part of their tech support was in India, but now it's all located in the US. I've made dozens of tech support calls to them for broken hardware (unavoidable when you have 100 machines plus 5 servers) and have been nothing but pleased. Sounds like you had a bad experience and I can understand that, but I have no doubt it's isolated. Dell consistently gets some of the highest marks for support in the industry.

Well I use to work for Dell tech support and from what I remember (it's been a couple of years) they use Asis mother boards and good cards. Let me know which one you are considering and I will get you the technicians view of them.

I bought my Dell in January of 2000, and I can say that I have been very pleased with everything. Customer service is very good and the computer itself has been no problem. I will always purchase my computers from Dell.

The thing to remember is that every Dell computer is made to your specifications and it is tested and retested before it leaves the factory. Like I said, any questions just ask. I have alot of friends who do/have worked for Dell.

Their Tech support line is in Edmonton.
