Have now got 20 dives under my belt since starting my ow in September, am working my way through my aow at the moment. Done loads of night dives and did my first deep dive last week. 25.5 metres. Got a bit of a fuzzy head thing going on there. More and more experiences seem to be around every corner. Can't get enough of this, bring it on.

Congratulations, my deepest dive was in Cozumel in 91ft (roughly 27.3m) off a wall. What an experience that was. I've only done one night dive, but it sure was a fun one. Dive Safe.:)

I'm with you Mogwai, it's exciting to think what you'll experience next.

My deepest dive was on my AOW, went down to 32m. I have to say that I didn't find being narced very nice and I think I'll be gradually building up my experience before I go that deep again. But it was great to have had the experience (just to say I've been there).

Take it easy.

Just got back from my first trip to Coz, MX and did my deepest dive to date at 100 ft. I have to agree that getting narced was a little strange and kind of freaked me out a little. I have exactly 50 dives now under my belt and have only been certified just over 1 year. Still have alot to experience.

...in the Keys last week! First dive was a deep dive at 108 fsw. I thought I was doing really good, until it came to the math problem. (17x3) - 41 = ? I came up with 67 or something! And took about 2 minutes of scratching on the slate to come up with that!!! We were laughing about it on the boat later. My performace durning the dive was good, but some of my problem solving skills were being impacted due to the depth.

Just as an aside, we made the dive on the wreck of the Eagle, and I managed to see the resident Jewfish on the way back to the surface line. He was HUGE! Looked as big as a Volkswagon from where I was!!!

I remember doing my PADI "deep" speciality, and had to do some silly exercises on the bottom and on the surface as well. The purpose was to time how long it took to examplify how being narc'ed affected me.

The interresting thing was, that I was actually something like consistantly 10% SLOWER on the surface than I was at 40m. We repeated with a different exercise on another day with the same result. My theory was, that I was somehow more focused on the task at depth than at the surface....

I've since found that for me, the noticable buzz sets in at around 44m and at around 48m (on air), I feel that I may not be a "safe diver" any more. I'm probably affected much shallower as everybody else, but I do not notice.

Ohh...and....btw...don't try this at home, unless properly trained and equipped for deep&deco! It's not cool to die from doing something stupid!

Depth at which you can get narked varies from day to day and person to person.

I find that I tend to get narked at shallower depths in lower visibility, also if I'm feeling in any way stressed that can cause me to feel narked again at shallower depths.

I have noticed when teaching that it doesnt really seem to matter how much experience you have, if you tend to get narked at shallower depths than someone else that will always be the case.

What will change is that as someone gets more experience, they become more comfortable with dealing with narcosis.

Some get used to the IDEA of dealing with narcosis. Others just put some helium in their mix.

Some get used to short dives a 130 ft or beyond with small gas supplies and little or no redundancy. Others do it with doubles, plan on a little decompression time and bring more efficient gasses for the job.

I'm going through my deco Advanced Nitrox class now. I never had a problem with Narcosis when I've gone deep (140 fsw). I know that I was narced but I didn't consciuosly notice and it didn't bug me. I just got tired of spending 2-5 min at depth and having to come up. I'm not getting used to anything other than planning for my deco stops now.

I think you'll enjoy it more. When you know what problems you can have and that you've trained for them, know you have plenty of gas, are comfortable with a little deco, then you can relax and enjoy it.
