What a relief to see that they made it out safely. Hopefully, especially following the Kursk incident, some international agreement can be signed whereby rescue missions automatically go into operation as soon as such an incident happens, saving valuable time. Obviously there are political issues to be resolved but its ludicrous that people die just because bureaucrats are taking there time decision-making. I think a whole day was wasted until the Russians asked for help. And maybe its about time they built their own rescue sub??
 
or just got out of the Submarine business all together. . . .
 
We should not be too quick to look down on the Russians. They have done remarkable things in the field off exploration on budgets a fraction of ours.

They have also been using their 'low tech' approach to quietly maintain the international space station during our high tech troubles. One good turn deserves another.
