Has anyone dove with deep blue? Are they good for a new diver, also does anyone know any cheap in town places to stay.

I don't know how cheap you are looking for but Plaza Las Glorias definitely has a great location if you don't want to rent a car. Right downtown, grocery across the street, fridge in the room, nice pier for dive shop pickup, drinks are cold, beds are hard, rooms are clean but a bit musty smelling. Service leaves something to be desired but I would go back in a heartbeat. The plusses outweight the minuses by a mile. You might also try a rental house if you don't mind staying downtown. We stayed at a place called Casa Tina. We walked to the Plaza las Glorias and used all their facilities including the pier for pickup. If you have 3-6 divers its a real bargain. Good luck!

I've known Matt & Debbie, owners of Deep Blue http://www.deepbluecozumel.com/ , for quite some time. They are simply super. I have always enjoyed my dives with the shop. Contact Debbie, tell her I sent you, and that you are a newbie with some concerns. If you're not satisfied with the answers, we'll find you another op. There are about 70 on Coz.

There are scads of places to stay on Coz. Tell me what you want & how much you're willing to spend, and I can make a number of recommendations.

Best regards.

And had a great time diving with them :)
Very professional operation, and very flexible too (we got to choose our dive sites every day).
My understanding is that they group divers on the boats by experience level.
However, we went with them because they had a great reputation for advanced divers.
A good alternative, even more suited for a new diver IMO, would probably be Papa Hogs. They have loads of excellent reviews on the scuba boards. Haven't tried them personally but I know people who have.

Cheers,
