Hi Everyone!!

I will be starting my Open Water class in just one week, it is so exciting! All the gear has been bought except for a dive skin. I hope I will be happy with the stuff I got. I love gadgets, anyone know of some good ones?

I live in Sunny California, but hear the water here on the Monterey coast is very cold, that is the only thing I fear about diving (so far). Got any suggestions for keeping my tootsies warm?

I am totally addicted to Scuba Board. I found a board like this when I went on vacation last year to the Caribbean and it is great to find another for my new addiction (scuba). I'd love to read everything on Scuba Board but I don't know where to start, and if I did, I'd be up all night!!

Well, I have to get back to my scuba studies so I will be prepared for class. Hope to be chattin with you all, and thanx in advance for any scuba hints, tips or tricks.

:) hi, welcome to scuba - i can remember how exciting it is doing open water, i loved every minute of it. also suffered with very cold feet here in the uk - nothing worked, no matter how many pairs of sock i wore i still couldnt feel my feet at the end of a 30 min. dive. I gave in and bought a dry suit in the end (make sure it has big enough boots for thick socks) and I havent been cold since. I makes such a difference as before i was cold but never wanted to end the dive for that reason, now i can just keep going as im all cosy warm in my drysuit.

Hi there and welcome. You discovered us last year, but took this long to join in? What too shy to join in before this? Just kidding - welcome, and keep us informed on how you do with your OW.

It is so nice to be excited for your OW course !!!

Wait till your real dives and you will understand what the real addiction is...

Welcome to the board
I look forward to checking it daily.
I too am from California. I've only dived in Maui. I would like to try Monterey. I hear the kelp beds are awsome. I plan on diving in Catalina hopefully in June. Interested? Always nice to share a ride. I know lots of divers hopefully we'll get a group

Hi all!!

So, what is the average water temp in and around your American waters?

Coming from England it would be nice to know what the definition of cold is!!

and greetings from Southern California!

As for keeping your feet warm, other than a drysuit, you could try polartech socks - LL Bean and Landsend catalogs have them, or check around the ski boots in your local sporting goods store...

Sbanks - on how cold "cold" is: just where in America did you mean? I found this and thought it was interesting:
