The original post I made was in search of anyone who has heard that the software is not used by DIR/GUE divers in the manner that GUE sells it

Quick answer: No, GUE trained divers do not run Decoplan profiles directly. Deco is done primarily in your head with Decoplan tables for backup. Those tables are not used as is but are modified using information taught in a GUE tech course. I'm not going to repeat any of that deco information because it needs a very lengthy explanation that I am not qualified to do and SB isn't the right place anyway.

GUE sells Decoplanner to use to play with profiles and generate raw tables. Decoplan is Buhlman w/ gradient factors, which is not exactly the most up to date information available.

Because its "top secret" and you're told not to tell anyone :)

Wreckwriter , you kill me... Some of your posts are making me rotflmao...

But, anyways...

DO you mean to tell me that you guys are actually trusting something that GUE came up with on their own for dive planning???

Wait a minute... I thought GUE didnt come up with anything on their own, they just rip it off of someone else and try to call it their own???

I must be confused...

Ok.... Now i sit and wait to be flamed by all the GUE wannabes that have never taken a GUE course or for that matter a tech course to begin with... but ACT LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE TALKIN ABOUT...

I love being able to speak my mind... ISn't it great???

Wow, Decoplanner is not safe for use "as sold"?

Then why sell it to begin with? Just buy abysmal and use the RGBM algo....

Chuck,

I am not a GUE-wannabe, nor do I play one on TV...

But as someone who presents himself as an official or unofficial rep for an LDS and lauds the quality of said LDS' instructors....do you really think it's a good idea to spend time on this site trashing other agencies......?

Just a thought....from someone who has spent a fair amount of money at ECD.

Large_Diver, if you want, you can PM me to find out what my problems are with GUE. I have a little first hand experience with them that turned me off... And, as far as me expressing my opinion, I think I owe that to my customers... ALot of my customers ask me my opinion about equipment purchases as well as what agency to do their technical training with. DO you expect me not to give them my honest opinion about an agency??? I think i will...

I'm glad that I could improve at least a small portion of your life :)

Personally I've used pretty much all of these decp software packages, the one I end up doing my dives on is pretty much alway V-Planner.

I am told that one should NOT used the DPlan for the PDA or Decoplanner sold by GUE for the desktop as is. That the stops need to be modified in some manner to properly utilize the software safely.

Does anyone know about this?

Who told you that? The modifications you speak of are methods that are used by some who feel they can optimize the schedule. The Dplan schedule is used as a starting point. Many dives over many years have been done using the Buhlman model. As already stated Dplan is Buhlman with gradient factor controled deep stops. If you want an idea of the reasoning behind the modifications check out the WKPP site. Decompression is not an exact science.

I use Dplan and I make some minor modifications to the profile which I'll keep to myself because just because it hasn't got me bent doesn't mean it won't get you bent. I have also done dives with a GUE trained diver with way more technical experience than than I have and we dived the same profile. I think he would have prefered to get out of the water a little quicker but I'm a chicken and didn't have anywhere else to go anyway.

Don't modify any schedule without a thorough understanding of why your doing it and working up from small dives to bigger ones to test the theory. Getting a little bent is better than getting alot bent, IMO.
