36 Pounds - Yikes!!
Anyone got one for rent?
Save your pennies and buy it. I've spent some quality time with it in the last 24 hours, and I can say that it is by far the best book I've read on the subject of decompression, and furthermore it is more than a read, it is likely to be a reference work to be consulted when reading other books.
For example, I have a copy of JJ's "Getting Clear on the Basics." In that book, he discusses some of his theories about decompression profiles by comparing them to existing thought. But he doesn't really explain the existing models or define the terms he uses, he just slings expressions like "M-Value" and "Oxygen Window" around, assuming that you already know this or it is explained to you in a GUE course.
Which is fine, especially if you have "Deco for Divers" beside you. Having read it, you know what these things are and a quick perusal will refresh your memory.
I will say further that this book is not just a tome for technical divers. His explanation of how so-called no decompression dive profiles are calculated is lucid. His discussion of ascent speed, safety stops and their impact on bubbling alone is worth the price of the book to me.
Now I have a feel for the issues involved when comparing profiles with deep stops like Minimum Deco to profiles with mandatory safety stops to profiles based purely on ascent rates.
