Thanks to all the great advice we got on this board - we have planned a trip to Cozumel in Dec. We will be at the Blue Angel from Dec. 12-16 where I'll be taking my Advanced Open Water and my wife will be taking her Open Water Referral. from everything I've read the courses through Blue Angel are among the best.

We were wondering if anyone might have a suggestion of where to stay for our last 3 nights. We wanted to finish off with something more upscale, maybe an AI.?

Also, are there many restaurants within walking distance of the Blue Angel for lunch and dinner?

Thanks again for all of the helpful info!

BA is about 2 miles south of the center of town. I can walk that and sometimes do, but we usually cab it to restaurants. There is a really good restaurant on the premises, though.

I can't really help you with AI options; I always stay at Blue Angel.

La Hache is a 10 minute walk or so south from there which my wife and I really enjoy. Then there are a few spots on south from that aren't to bad of a walk.

Look into Cozumel Palace near town

If you want a true upscale experience, look into my friend tom's oceanfront condo. The pool deck is the nicest in Coz and it is close to everything. Add a car for the few days and you will have a much better experience than at any of the AIs. The condo is outstanding as is Tom.

We stayed at Sabor, which is not an upscale AI, but it's next door neighbor Secrets looked very nice.

Best part: the dock makes for super easy pick up and drop off when diving.
Worst part: the food in town is so far away, and so yummy.

Cabs are cheap and easy. If you have not had the Scallops at Guidos, you will thank me later. Very nice white table cloth restaurant and great food in a romantic setting. If scallops aren't your thing, they have lots of other choices and the Pizzas looked really good too. We have too many favorite places to eat to stay at an AI. The food always seems to get old after the first day or two at an AI.....kind of like a cruise ship. I can't help you with the AI selection, but for a romantic dinner for two, Guidos would be my spot. We will be there at least twice in November!! Good luck with your search. Jay

I can't help you with an AI, as I refuse to do AI on Cozumel. Even with a 10-day stay, I don't have the time to visit all of my favorite restaurants and still check out new places that have been recommended either here or on CozumelMyCozumel.com from people I trust. For High End, however, check out El Presidente - excellent accomodations, still close enough to town that taxi rides aren't too long and fares not too much, so you can still hit the Downtown restaurants for dinners - La Cocay, Kinta, Condesa, Casa Mission, Guidos, New Especias, Prima, Del Sur, etc. Or try Casa Mexicana, right in Downtown - nice rooms, excellent location. The pool is nothing more than a glorified wading pool, but if you are diving every day, or make day trips to the Beach Clubs, that might not be a big deal.

You must have a higher budget and more patience than I do. Cab fares from the southern AI's add up fast, and the ride gets long after making it a few times. If you want to eat in town, stay in town.
