Good video. So your favorite torch throws light up to 25m? Will a long throw torch have a correspondingly narrow beam and vice versa? What is the spread of the beam in this torch? You mention not recommended for WA scenes.. Which one should I get for WA?

Thanks again
P

no, my video lights throw light in daylight/bluewater conditions to a few metres as per your original post. the depth was 25 metres. the point being that at 25 metres, natural light isn't usually enough to make good video with a gopro; hence the need for artificial light.

a wide beam is required for video lights otherwise there will be a hotspot and you won't get full coverage.

the lights that i use have a spread of 60 - 90 degrees depending upon which source you believe.

Just got back from Bonaire and using my GoPro 3+ Black, Macromate Mini, URPro CY filter, Backscatter 3.1 Flip w/55mm adapters, and GoBe 700 Wide lights. Absolutely love this setup. The two video links below are unedited other than YouTube's shake correcting. Can't wait to fully edit these and the other video taken! Getting used to finding the right focal distance with the Macromate Mini... Once it's there though it provides awesome results!

This is what I bought. I will get to use in in about 2 weeks.

You will love this setup dmoore19....! I was a little concerned that I didn't get bright enough lights, but they are plenty for night videos! The CY filter definitely brings out the color during day dives. Practice getting used to the focal distance and holding it there on the macromate mini. I used the SRP tray and it helped a ton... Good luck in a couple weeks and enjoy!

I should know which tray I bought but can't think of it right now. I have the gopro mounted on the cold shoe on my trusty old DC800 Sealife.

I have the Argonaut Kraken double hose regulator that will be delivered tomorrow according to the Fedex Tracking number. Between the 2 I hope to get some good video and stills.

Thanks for your comments.

the video of the moray is super smooth. well done. i'm going to investigate on/offline video stabilisation software now :)

Is it possible to use the and the URPro CY Filter and SRP's Marumi Macro +10 lens with Backscatter Flip?
I like the convenience factor with the Flip.

Macro lenses on GoPro don't in effect really magnify UW. What they allow you to do in this case is allow the camera to get closer to the subject while staying in focus. The better the lens, the closer with less optical distortions. Cheap ones will bring your minimum focal length from 12" to around 8" to subject. Good lenses as close as 4".

What is the max distance one can focus before things get blurry with a macro lens typically? Its not something we want to leave on all the time is it?
