Today we got a chance to take my friend's boat out with his new 200 hp rocket on the back. We started at reef #5 offshore from ponce inlet. The ocean was incredibly flat, and we made it to #5 in no time at all.
We dropped anchor, there was barely any current at all. The first guy hit the water to set the anchor and tell about bottom conditions. I have attached a picture of what he saw on the bottom, which can be summarized as a wonderful, pristine 1' viz with a thermocline in the 60's. Oh yeah.
We pulled anchor and headed to the antilles star. About half way there his new motor decided to spin the prop, which meant that we were reduced to traveling at about 4 mph. We turned around and about 10 miles (and 3 hours later) we made it back to dock.
All in all it was a crappy time, but it could have been worse. We could all have been patients in a burn ward or I could have woken up in a strange man's bed with a butt that felt "a bit funny."
