I have yet to offer diving insurance to my customers. when we first were certified my family went with DAN but I've seen a few of the other local shops carrying Dive Assure.

Can anyone share their experiences. I want to hear the good and bad of both companies. why did you choose either.

Thak you

Dan is Known all over the world , I live in Ireland and havnt heard of dive assure

I'm not all that familiar with Dive Assure, but I have been with DAN for years. DAN is so much more than just dive insurance. DAN conducts research and training in the medical field with regard to diver safety. They provide a 24 hour hotline that I can always count on, regardless of where I'm diving.

If you just want dive insurance, you need to look at both organizations. However if you also want to support an organization that does all it can to support divers and the dive industry...then the choice is clear..IMHO.

That's the biggest reason why I chose DAN. If you are a frequent international traveler, it is hard to avoid DAN...

My wife and I have DAN. We also have felt a little better knowing we have added insurance. One thing that started to bug me was on my last trip (Cozumel) 4 divers told stories of DAN not wanting to pay for approved things. The one story was told by a DM who was diving in Can with another good diver when out of the blue the guy was showing signs of the bends. They called DAN and told them to pay out of pocket for the treatment and they would cover it. I guess they do not have a system set up in Can. The guy is still fighting with DAN 4 years later.

Again this is second hand info and I have no way of finding out if all the facts are true. It just made me think about doing a little research on how DAN is doing with their customer service etc. For all I know DAN is doing a great job but I for one do not feel as warm and fuzzy as before.

Just my two cents. :D

I use both.

DAN - Coverage for medical issues like the bends, chamber rides, dive accidents, things like that.

Dive Assure - Trip Insurance. Coverage for things like cancelled flights, catching the flu the day before you leave, lost bags, hurricane blowing you out, etc.

DAN has travel insurance but it isn't so hot.

Dan does not claim to be "nor is it " primary insurance. Its secondary to your existing policies and only covers dive related issues.

DiveAssure is and claims to be your primary insurance provider for dive travel/incidents.

There is a significant difference in rates (I pay for three divers so I have checked and double checked)!

You should recommend both and let your clients decide!

Mrs. Fdog and I have the Dive Assure Diamond plan; this is full-service dive insurance and trip insurance for the full year. A pretty good deal for $300 per person. It's good for all the trips we can take (diving related) for the year.

As an aside, earlier this year we did a trip on the Belize Aggressor, with a couple of days at Ambergris Caye. The chamber at Ambergris is right next to the airport (airstrip?), so I dropped in to take a look.

After being greeted by the nice lady there, I asked, conversational-like, if they took DAN insurance. They snickered. Then I showed them my Dive Assure card, asking if that would do? The smiles told me more than advertising could.

I'm happy that I carry DiveAssure.

All the best, James
