I currently have insurance through DAN (Premium member) and was wondering if there are any significant differences between the three.

Thanks,

Sy

My take on it is yes there is............ DAN uses its profits to provide on a daily basis invaluable service to the diving community.......regular commericial insurance companies provide dividends to their shareholders!

You will find out about the differences when you use them...and hopefully that never happens. I have DAN insurance simply because I first became aware of DAN. I haven't investigated any of the others. I have never had to use DAN, so I can't comment on how good they are or aren't.

Dan is supportive of diving and provides a newsletter but I chose Dive Assure because of the better coverage for the money. My LDS promotes Dive Assure. Every year I renew my policy and feel secure when I travel because of the good protection.

Dive Assure is the agency that is associated with Scuba Diving International and Technical Diving International. I use them.

I found DiveAssure to be far too expensive (over $400). Plus DAN's coverage is per occurrence and DiveAssure's is a policy limit. I will probably never need it and certainly not twice (I hope), but it's nice to know the coverage is there.

I buy separate travel insurance that covers just about every possible scenario not just diving related interruptions. DAN plus the travel insurance is still cheaper than DiveAssure.

Then, there's the DAN research and diver support. They do good work and I support them with my membership and donations.

I suggest you print out the different policy coverages and prices and compare for yourself.

I've been a DAN Preferred member since 96. I also support thier research with a seperate donation each year. They are a non-profit charity that does great work in the dive industry.

Member, or not... You can call them with questions.

Try calling an insurance company to get answers without a policy number.
